Alamance Scholars
Alamance Scholars: Live Here. Learn Here. Teach Here.
The Alamance Scholars program at Â鶹ÊÓƵ provides local high school and community college students the opportunity and resources to grow as leaders while giving back to a place they’ve long called home.
Through a partnership with Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Alamance-Burlington School System, and Alamance Community College, the Alamance Scholars program is one of the most affordable pathways to earning an Â鶹ÊÓƵ degree, hands-on classroom management experience, and a guaranteed teaching position within ABSS after graduation.
Program Goals
- To improve the pipeline and opportunities to become a PK-12 teacher in ABSS;
- To increase opportunities for people of the Alamance community to further their education;
- To increase the number of highly qualified diverse equity-minded teachers in our community;
- To acknowledge teachers are an important part of our success as a community.

“I love being at Â鶹ÊÓƵ! I’ve met so many friendly faces and my professors have been my biggest support system. All of my courses have prepared me for my placements. I’ve always wanted to stay close to home and knowing I get to graduate and have the opportunity to give back to the county I grew up in is so important. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is the perfect choice and I could not imagine being anywhere else.”

“I can honestly say that I have wanted to become a teacher ever since I can remember, and my love for education has not wavered in the slightest! Â鶹ÊÓƵ has always been my dream school, and Alamance Scholars has not only provided financial support for my education journey but has also allowed me to live out my dream of being a Phoenix! Alamance Scholars allows education majors to experience field placements in local ABSS schools during Junior year, and a student teaching experience during Senior year, as well as guarantees a job within an ABSS school upon graduation! “I have known from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher. I had many important teachers that made a positive impact on me throughout my time as a student in Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS). The Alamance Scholars Program has given me the opportunity to attend my dream school, Â鶹ÊÓƵ, where I am able to take classes to learn about teaching and engage in the practice through field placements in ABSS. I am committed to giving back to ABSS by teaching in the local system upon graduation.”

“Ever since I was little, I had the idea of possibly pursuing teaching. Once I decided to pursue teaching, I dreamed of attending Â鶹ÊÓƵ, and through the Alamance Scholars Program, that dream was made a reality! I have been able to attend classes at Â鶹ÊÓƵ as well as different field placements in the Alamance Burlington School System. Through Â鶹ÊÓƵ, I have received hands on experience and gained support from my professors, shaping me into the teacher I want to be more and more each day. In the Spring of 2026, I will graduate from Â鶹ÊÓƵ with the intent of teaching within ABSS!”

“While I love online learning, nothing compares to the engagement of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s in-person classes. Every activity is hands-on, deeply connected to real-world experiences, and applicable for my life as a teacher candidate. Everyone at Â鶹ÊÓƵ is supportive of my goals and my experiences are making me a better and more well-rounded educator.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Â鶹ÊÓƵ so far. Though it has only been one semester so far, it’s been amazing. My favorite parts of Â鶹ÊÓƵ include many things such as the community, the environment, and the deeper understanding I gain about the education programs here. All of the teaching courses I have been a part of have truly opened my eyes and have set me up very well for when I start teaching. Being an Alamance Scholar gave me another reason to be excited to attend Â鶹ÊÓƵ and I’m so glad I chose to do it. I had always dreamed of going to Â鶹ÊÓƵ but it was never possible until this program came along.”

“Transitioning to Â鶹ÊÓƵ has been wonderful. The support I receive from the faculty has been welcoming. I recently had the opportunity to work with multilingual children who recently moved to the United States. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is the place to come to broaden your mind and experiences.”
