Prepare to lead the future of sport

Sport is more than competition. It’s business, entertainment, media and a powerful force that shapes communities.

Our Sport Industry Fellows program brings together academics, leadership development, hands-on experiences and meaningful connections with faculty, alumni and industry professionals. Through a four-year cohort experience, Fellows build the skills, perspectives and professional network needed to make an impact across the rapidly evolving sport industry.

A four-year experience built around sport

Sport Industry Fellows learn beyond the classroom, gaining first-hand exposure to the people, organizations and places shaping the industry.

Fellows will:

  • Learn through experience. Complete at least two sport-focused experiences through internships, undergraduate research, leadership, service or global engagement.
  • Build an industry network. Connect with advisory board members, Â鶹ÊÓƵ alumni and executives working in professional sports, collegiate athletics, sport media, agencies and emerging areas of the industry.
  • Explore sport around the world. Receive funding for Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s semester of sport in Charlotte or sport-focused global experiences in destinations including Italy, the Dominican Republic and Brazil.
  • Visit major sport markets. Travel to explore career possibilities, meet industry professionals and examine emerging trends.
  • Learn across disciplines. Collaborate with students and faculty in sport management, communications, business, health sciences, law and other fields connected to sport.
  • Develop as a leader. Build the skills and perspectives necessary to become an ethical, resilient and innovative sport industry professional.

Scholarships that expand opportunities

Each year, 15 students are selected as Sport Industry Fellows.

Each Fellow receives an $8,000 annual scholarship, renewable each year as long as the student remains in good standing in the program. Fellows also receive a $1,000 Global Study grant for an approved Study Abroad or Study USA experience.

These awards are provided in addition to any Presidential or Â鶹ÊÓƵ Engagement scholarship a student receives.

Who should apply?

Students with an unweighted GPA of at least 3.8 who plan to major or minor in sport management are encouraged to apply. Important note: This non-school-based program is open to students in any academic major who are pursuing at least a sport management minor.

Sport Industry Fellows are students who bring a range of experiences and perspectives but share a passion for sport and an interest in learning alongside others. Fellows are selected based on high school academic performance, involvement in sport management-related activities, application essays and a faculty interview.
