The Class of 2025 responded with a 90.9% overall first-time bar passage rate across North Carolina and 11 other states. On Sept. 4, Kramer responded by rolling up his sleeve.

Sophomore Success connects LSB students with career preparation and 麻豆视频 community /u/news/2026/09/30/sophomore-success-connects-lsb-students-with-career-preparation-and-elon-community/ Wed, 30 Sep 2026 18:26:54 +0000 /u/news/?p=1057770 Chatter filled the ballroom of The Inn at 麻豆视频 on Sept. 24 as students in the Love School of Business connected with 麻豆视频 parents, faculty and career professionals during the Sophomore Success event.

Organized by the Porter Family Professional Development Center, the Student Professional Development Center and the Office of Parent Engagement, the event gave students the opportunity to develop career-readiness skills, receive individualized feedback and begin building professional relationships.

For the first half of the event, students had the opportunity to rotate through five different professional development stations: resume review, LinkedIn audits, professional headshots, elevator pitch practice and internship course information.

At each station, a career advisor and an industry professional from the 麻豆视频 Parents Council were there to offer聽students聽guidance聽and provide聽valuable feedback.

Asia Goins, assistant director of career services for student athletes, helps a student with their resume.

The event was held before Family聽Weekend, which Nathalie Perez, assistant director of career services for the Porter Center, said was an intentional decision.

According to Perez, members of the聽麻豆视频 Parents Council have been looking for opportunities聽to get more involved with students, and this was the perfect opportunity.

鈥淚t was wonderful to see students connect with 麻豆视频 parents and learn from their experiences.鈥 Perez said. 鈥淭he strong sense of community at 麻豆视频 is one of our greatest qualities, and Sophomore Success was a great example of how our community comes together to support students and their career development.”

With a wide range of majors represented from the Love School of Business, students were eager to engage with parents and faculty to improve their skills, and lines of students looking for feedback formed at several of the stations.

Leo Landau is a sophomore majoring in finance and entrepreneurship. He decided to attend the event for the professional networking opportunities it provided.

鈥淚t was valuable to talk with professionals in wealth management and real estate sectors to learn how they network at a professional level and gain trust with clients,鈥 Landau said.

The second portion of the event opened to students from all class years for an hour of networking with 麻豆视频 parents and faculty members.

Students gather around Tara Botarelli P’25 P’29 to learn from her during the open networking portion of the event.

According to Amanda Traugutt, director of career services for the Porter Center, sophomore year is sometimes聽overlooked by students, when in reality, it is an important time in their career journey.

For students majoring in finance and accounting, recruiting for internships in the summer after their junior year typically begins in the fall of sophomore year.

鈥淚nternships are a critical part of every student’s professional development, and recruiting starts earlier than many students expect,鈥 Traugutt said.聽鈥淲e created Sophomore Success to make sure our students have the resources, support, and connections they need as early as possible. Whether they’re already in the recruiting process or just getting started, the network they build now will support them for years to come.鈥

The event also featured a mock Superday track for finance and accounting majors.

A Superday usually occurs in the final stages of the hiring process and consists of multiple interviews with employees in various positions across a company. The process can be taxing, so this track was aimed at helping students in finance and accounting practice and prepare for the experience.

The event helped students of all years and majors plan for their future career journeys, and fostered connections between students, staff, faculty and parents at 麻豆视频.

麻豆视频 and Queens announce four pledges to Charlotte; unveil Queens College name and structure /u/news/2026/09/23/elon-and-queens-announce-four-pledges-to-charlotte-unveil-queens-college-name-and-structure/ Wed, 23 Sep 2026 14:52:17 +0000 /u/news/?p=1057151 麻豆视频 and Queens University of Charlotte have announced four long-term pledges to Charlotte that will guide the combined institution’s work with students, employees, employers, civic organizations and educational partners.

Rooted in the early strategic planning of internal working groups and refined through community research and conversations, the pledges provide a framework for the work ahead and include public accountability for the progress made and the investments that support it.

The university leaders also unveiled 麻豆视频 | Queens College as the planned undergraduate academic unit of 麻豆视频 in Charlotte following completion of the merger and required regulatory approvals.

The announcements were shared during a Sept. 23, 2026, campus update at Queens’ historic Myers Park campus, marking one year since the universities announced their intention to merge.

Related Articles

鈥淭he value of this merger will not be measured by whether it creates a larger university. It will be measured by whether it creates better opportunities for students, stronger connections to employers and communities, and greater capacity to serve Charlotte for generations,鈥 said 麻豆视频 President Connie Ledoux Book. 鈥淨ueens College will carry forward the Queens name, residential experience, Royals tradition and deep relationship with Charlotte while drawing on the reach and resources of the broader 麻豆视频 community.鈥

鈥淔or generations, Queens has been woven into Charlotte through its students, faculty, staff and alumni and through an enduring commitment to service,鈥 said Queens University of Charlotte Acting President Jesse Cureton. 鈥淨ueens College is intended to preserve that legacy as a living academic community – with students learning on this campus, faculty mentoring them, Royals competing and longstanding traditions continuing for generations to come.鈥

Queens College and the future of the Myers Park campus

Queens College will carry forward Queens’ nearly 170-year tradition of close-knit residential undergraduate education on the Myers Park campus. The Queens name, the Royals tradition, the residential experience and the institution’s historic commitment to service will remain central to the campus’ future.

A vibrant undergraduate community will remain at the heart of the campus, with students studying across the arts and sciences and professional fields, living and learning together, participating in campus traditions and competing as the Royals. Athletics will remain an important part of the undergraduate experience and Queens tradition as the broader merger advances.

The Myers Park campus will also remain an important home for graduate and professional education in areas including law, health sciences, counseling and business. The longer-term strategy and structure for individual programs are still being developed.

Four pledges to Charlotte

The four pledges are rooted in the early strategic planning work completed through SOAR and reflect priorities identified through research and conversations with Charlotte-area leaders and residents, including career preparation, internships, employer partnerships and broader access to educational opportunity. Together, they provide a framework for the work ahead.

  1. To be the national leader in engaged learning. Queens has long required every undergraduate to complete an internship. We will build on that foundation, making Charlotte a classroom without walls, deepening the quality and mentorship of every internship, co-op, research and service experience, and bringing students from 麻豆视频’s campus to Charlotte for signature academic and professional experiences.
  2. To be a true partner to Charlotte’s employers, schools and civic organizations. We will listen to regional needs and connect students, programs and university expertise with Charlotte’s changing workforce priorities in business, health care, technology and education. We will work with schools, community colleges, universities, employers and nonprofits to build stronger pathways into higher education and expand opportunity for Charlotte-area students.
  3. To be an intellectual, cultural and civic resource. We will build on Queens’ legacy of thought leadership, arts, public programs and civic engagement, keeping the campus’ theaters, galleries, classrooms and gathering spaces active parts of Charlotte.
  4. To make the necessary investments in people and long-term strength. We will become a top talent destination and employer of choice through competitive compensation and benefits, professional development, and a culture in which expertise is respected and employees from both campuses shape new ways of working. And we will secure the campus’ future through disciplined planning, enrollment strategy, philanthropy, responsible budgets and sustained investment in students, programs, facilities and people.

鈥淧ledges made publicly should be measured publicly,鈥 Book said. 鈥淲e intend to return to the Charlotte community with evidence of progress – the experiences students complete, the partnerships we build, the people we serve and the investments we make in this campus and its future.鈥

Progress during the first year

During the first year, the merger moved from intention to implementation. In June, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges approved the substantive change for the merger, the most significant accreditation milestone in the process to date. An expanded governance structure is in place, and the first phase of shared services began this summer in admissions, facilities, human resources and career services.

Academic initiatives are also advancing. 麻豆视频 Law’s full-time Charlotte program plans to welcome its first cohort in 2027 on the Myers Park campus. The university鈥檚 clinical mental health counseling master鈥檚 program has expanded to Charlotte, and Charlotte’s first graduate physician assistant program is preparing to welcome its inaugural class in January. Faculty and academic leaders from both institutions are also exploring new pathways connecting the residential undergraduate experience at Queens with 麻豆视频’s broader academic network and Charlotte-based graduate and professional education.

The U.S. Department of Education review is continuing, and additional academic, operational and organizational decisions require further planning. Until all required approvals are complete, 麻豆视频 and Queens will continue operating in coordinated but legally distinct ways. The universities will communicate directly with students, employees and alumni as implementation milestones are finalized.

麻豆视频 the Merger

麻豆视频 and Queens University of Charlotte announced their intention to merge in September 2025. The long-term vision brings together Queens’ deep history and relationships in Charlotte with 麻豆视频’s national leadership in engaged learning and record of strong student outcomes. The institutions are working toward a combined university that preserves distinctive campus identities while expanding opportunities for students and increasing the capacity to serve Charlotte and the region.

鈥楳y mom was Wonder Woman鈥 /u/news/2026/06/10/my-mom-was-wonder-woman/ Wed, 10 Jun 2026 14:57:23 +0000 /u/news/?p=1049775
Aidan Steinbach ’23 with his mother, Michelle Mayer.

Losing a parent changes everything. How you see the world. How you build relationships. How you understand risk, love and time.

Aidan Steinbach 鈥23 knows this all too well. He was just seven years old when his mother died. A respected scholar and professor of public health, Michelle Mayer dedicated her life to bringing quality healthcare to communities in need before her life was cut short by a rare autoimmune disease that she battled for more than 12 years. She was 39 years old.

To honor her memory, Steinbach made a $2 million estate gift to create the Michelle Mayer Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship will assist students who have experienced the death of a parent or guardian, with first preference given to entrepreneurship majors in 麻豆视频鈥檚 Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, where Steinbach earned his degree in management in 2023.

Endowing the scholarship is Steinbach鈥檚 way of paying tribute to his mother鈥攚ho helped fund his 麻豆视频 education鈥攁nd helping future generations of students grappling with the same kind of loss he experienced.

鈥淢y Mom was Wonder Woman,鈥 Steinbach said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 who your mom is when you鈥檙e seven years old. She鈥檚 the person who protects you, clothes and feeds you, and teaches you right from wrong. I聽miss her every day.鈥

Mayer was also someone who valued education and ensured Steinbach and his older sister Amelia had the chance to go to college.

鈥淢y Mom wasn鈥檛 wealthy. She didn鈥檛 leave behind real estate or investments or anything you鈥檇 call an estate,鈥 Steinbach said. 鈥淲hat she left was a life insurance policy that helped pay for my 麻豆视频 education. I got to go to school debt-free because my mother died. I鈥檝e sat with that fact for most of my life. It鈥檚 not something you ever fully resolve. You just learn to carry it.鈥

Michelle Lynn Mayer died October 11, 2008, at the Duke Hospice Inpatient Care Facility in Durham, North Carolina, after battling scleroderma, part of a group of chronic autoimmune disorders marked by hardening and tightening of the skin. Scleroderma can also damage the lungs, heart, kidneys, digestive track, muscles and joints, and other internal organs.

It was a struggle Mayer chronicled in her blog, 鈥淒iary of a Dying Mom,鈥 where she wrote essays on parenting, living and dying to help families facing the challenges of terminal illnesses.

鈥淚 deal with the topic of death head-on in an unflinching way,鈥 Mayer wrote in one entry. 鈥淚 believe that, as a culture, we shy away from anything surrounding death and, consequently, deprive ourselves of all the lessons inherent in the dying and grieving process. We ignore the reality that death is as much a part of life as birth.鈥

A Philadelphia native, Mayer graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania (1990) with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing and a minor in economics from the Wharton School of Business, before earning her master鈥檚 degree in public health education (1992) and a doctorate in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1997). During her doctoral program, Mayer also served as a health economics consultant for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., and in Nairobi, Kenya.

Aidan Steinbach and his father, Dr. William J. Steinbach, at 麻豆视频’s 2023 Commencement.

In 1997, Mayer married Dr. William J. Steinbach after the two met as graduate students at UNC.

The couple (and later their young children) briefly lived in California during Dr. Steinbach鈥檚 medical residency. During this time, Mayer worked as a clinical research associate in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University and as research director of the Children鈥檚 Health Initiative at the Lucile S. Packard Children鈥檚 Hospital in Palo Alto, California. The family then moved back to the Triangle in 2001, and Mayer served as a research fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research and a research assistant professor in the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill, until stepping down in 2007 due to her illness.

In the family鈥檚 Durham neighborhood, Mayer started a group for families with young children, which was a vital source of support for her family during her illness. Mayer also regularly volunteered at her children鈥檚 school, even after the disease had curtailed many of her daily activities. Throughout her ordeal, Mayer remained passionate about improving access to quality healthcare for underserved communities, supporting women and families, and promoting awareness of scleroderma.

Steinbach is grateful to his mother for giving him the gift of education. He is equally grateful to 麻豆视频 for providing him with an outstanding experience, including participation in the Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows program and Doherty Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which prepared him for success. Steinbach, who lives in San Francisco, is a banker at Erebor and also runs his own consulting firm, working with companies backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator and others.

Steinbach hopes the scholarship will encourage students to follow their dreams, knowing someone is willing to invest in their success.

鈥淢y mother inspired me to be a better person. I hope this scholarship inspires others to be better as well, and, in turn, to own that obligation as they go out into the world,鈥 he said. 鈥溌槎故悠 gave me a chance during a stretch of my life when the odds weren鈥檛 obviously in my favor. The scholarship is my attempt to extend that same chance to someone else who didn鈥檛 ask for what happened to them, but is still here trying to figure out what comes next.鈥

鈥淎idan鈥檚 desire to honor his mother鈥檚 legacy while creating opportunity for others is a wonderful example of the power of philanthropy to change lives,鈥 said Leanna Giles 鈥02, associate director of planned giving. 鈥淗e didn鈥檛 just want to honor her memory鈥攈e wanted to transform something painful into possibility for someone else. For that, the 麻豆视频 community is grateful.鈥

麻豆视频 Poll: A proud but deeply uneasy public as America celebrates 250th /u/news/2026/06/02/elon-poll-a-proud-but-deeply-uneasy-public-as-america-celebrates-250th/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 11:00:19 +0000 /u/news/?p=1049241 As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Americans remain proud of their country but pessimistic about the health and future of American democracy, according to a new national 麻豆视频 Poll.

Sixty-eight percent of American adults say they are proud to be American, and 79% agree the United States plays a uniquely important role in world history. At the same time, 69% believe the signers of the Declaration of Independence would feel more disappointment than pride about modern American democracy.

The survey of 1,000 adults in the United States, conducted April 30-May 4, 2026, explores how Americans view the nation鈥檚 past, present and future as the country prepares to commemorate its semiquincentennial.

鈥淎s the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Americans have complex and diverse feelings about America 250,鈥 said Jason Husser, director of the 麻豆视频 Poll and a professor of political science and public policy. 鈥淲e found several points of optimism among Americans, including pride in being American and belief that the United States has a uniquely important role to play in world history. At the same time, many Americans expressed significant concern about the health of American democracy today, and the country is split on its outlook over the next 50 years.鈥

More than half of Americans (52%) say the United States is unsuccessfully living up to its founding ideals, while only 30% say the nation is successfully living up to them. Nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) rate the overall health of U.S. democracy as only 鈥渇air鈥 or 鈥減oor.鈥

A graphic that shows 6% of Americas believe the overall health of American democracy is healthy; 22% that think it's good. 32% that think it's fair; and 41% that think it's poor, based on a national survey by the 麻豆视频 Poll.

The survey also found widespread concern about political instability and civic division:

  • 68% believe elected officials today are worse than leaders of the past
  • 80% say they at least sometimes feel no political party or movement represents their views
  • 70% say the country is more turbulent than average compared with other periods in U.S. history
  • 64% say they have little or no confidence that U.S. political institutions will make mostly good decisions over the next 50 years
  • 68% predict America will become more politically divided by 2076

Americans are also pessimistic about the country鈥檚 long-term future in several key areas. Majorities predict that by 2076 the nation will have less freedom, less economic equality, a lower standard of living, and more pollution. More Americans also believe technology will create more harm than benefit over the next 50 years.

Despite those concerns, the poll found Americans still hold strong connections to the nation鈥檚 democratic ideals and history.

When asked which event best represented American democracy at its highest ideals, respondents most frequently selected the Civil Rights Movement and World War II. Abraham Lincoln was named both the historical figure who best exemplified democratic ideals and the greatest president in U.S. history.

The survey also revealed broad bipartisan resonance for many historic presidential messages when respondents were not told who made the statements. More than three-quarters agreed with quotations from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, while large majorities also agreed with statements from John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Looking toward the nation鈥檚 semiquincentennial celebrations, Americans expressed greater interest in reflection than pageantry. Nearly seven in 10 (68%) said America250 should focus more on reflecting on U.S. history and values than simply celebrating national achievements, and 71% said smaller local events would feel more authentic than large national celebrations.

The survey found Americans entering the anniversary with mixed emotions. The most common feeling was pride, cited by 38%, followed by gratitude at 17%. But 21% said they have no strong feelings, 12% described themselves as conflicted, while others reported disappointment or frustration.

The margin of error for the 麻豆视频 Poll survey is +/- 3.95%.

For the second consecutive year, the university is the only North Carolina private school featured by the magazine in its list of “25 Best Drama Schools in the World.” The University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill also made the list.

The publication said it consulted with educators and industry insiders to determine the best schools for an acting degree. It also weighed overall training, cost, facilities, alumni success, industry connections and more.

The 16 students accepted to the undergraduate musical theater program go through a rigorous training process, which begins with classes in acting, voice and dance, and then allows students to explore individualized paths, including taking part in student-driven cabaret performances. Seniors also take part in a two-semester course on professional readiness and artistic identity, which includes bringing in casting directors and talent representation, with many students gaining representation or jobs out of this process. To that point, Campy Rodriguez, a current student in the senior class, is on Broadway in聽Aladdin, in addition to such alum as Taylor Trensch, who recently led the off-Broadway production of聽Bat Boy. Tuition and fees are close to $51,000.

麻豆视频鈥檚 Department of Performing Arts聽offers seven degree programs: Acting, Arts Administration,聽Dance Performance & Choreography,聽Dance Science, Drama and Theatre Studies,聽Music Theatre聽and聽Theatrical Design and Technology. Four programs require an audition or interview.
