Two �鶹��Ƶ students have been named finalists for a 2011 Truman Scholarship, a prestigious national fellowship awarded each year to college juniors with goals of working in education, government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, or elsewhere in public service.

Rebecca Pope-Ruark, assistant professor of English, published an article entitled "Know Thy Audience: Helping Students Engage a Threshold Concept Using Audience-Based Pedagogy" in the 5th anniversary issue of the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Paul Crenshaw, assistant professor of English, recently published two essays, one in the Southern Humanities Review and the other in the Connecticut Review.

Greg Hlavaty, lecturer in English, and Murphy Townsend, instructor of English, co-authored an essay in the December 2010 issue of Teaching English in the Two-Year College.

Greg Hlavaty, lecturer in English, published an essay in Arts and Letters (Fall 2010 No. 24). This essay, "How You're Made," chronicles the author's attempts to become part of Appalachian hunting culture through apprenticeship to a younger sportsman.

Barbara Gordon, an associate professor of English, made appearances on local morning television programs this fall to speak about the publication of her co-authored book, Breast Cancer Recurrence and Advanced Disease: Comprehensive Expert Guidance, published by Duke University Press.

�鶹��Ƶ's Center for Environmental Studies hosted a Wild Feline Husbandry and Conservation Workshop on Nov. 6, 2010.

Rebecca Pope-Ruark, assistant professor of English, presented a paper at the 75th Association for Business Communication National Convention in Chicago last week.

Colonnades, �鶹��Ƶ's literary magazine, received a 2010 national Magazine Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press over the weekend at the organization's joint conference with College Media Advisers in Louisville. The Pacemaker is the highest honor ACP gives to its members.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning has named �鶹��Ƶ faculty members Michelle Trim, David Neville and Ketevan Kupatadze as CATL Scholars for 2011-2013. The selection process was highly competitive, with 10 faculty applying for the three positions.
