Â鶹ÊÓƵ

The "Opening Doors" series celebrates the power of scholarships to change the lives of Â鶹ÊÓƵ students and the generosity of donors who make this transformation possible.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Trustee and parent Eric Sklut and his wife, Lori Sklut, of Charlotte, North Carolina, will help bring outstanding students to the university and strengthen funding for a Jewish studies professorship.

The gift from Robert A. Clohan III ’67, the late Â鶹ÊÓƵ alumnus, parent and grandparent, and his son, alumnus and Trustee Charles R. Clohan ’98, will support construction of Sankey Hall. In recognition of the gift from one of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's most generous families, the university will rename Colonnades Dining Hall as Clohan Hall on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 4:15 p.m.

Inspired by Â鶹ÊÓƵ's commitment to scholarship funding, retired faculty member Nancy Midgette, of Montreat, North Carolina, decided to support students in the Odyssey Program with her gift.

The Sam and Vicky Hunt Scholarship will assist two students each year in the Odyssey Program, a highly selective program for students with exceptional ability and promise and significant financial need.

The 5,100-seat, 160,000-square-foot facility will provide a premier gathering space for major campus events and serve as the new home for Â鶹ÊÓƵ's basketball and volleyball programs when it opens next year.

Furman Moseley '56 created the Odyssey Program scholarships for women with outstanding promise in 2007 to honor his wife, Susan. The university awards four Susan Scholarships each year.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ trustee Eric Sklut and his wife, Lori, are leaders in supporting Jewish Life on Â鶹ÊÓƵ's campus.

The Graves family makes a generous gift so more students may have the transformative experience offered by studies abroad.

The new scholarship gifts and commitments announced by President Leo M. Lambert and a group of key university volunteers on Friday come from seven inspired donors.
