Monday's gathering on Scott Plaza in front of the Alamance Building offered an opportunity to welcome new and returning members of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Academy, the university's college access and success program for local high school students.

A member of the Class of 2018 will be able to share this special day with her parents, neither of whom have been out of their home country before.

Friends, family and supporters gathered with members of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Academy's Kappa Class to cheer them on as they prepare to attend colleges and universities around the state this fall.

Among those volunteering with the Village project this semester — members of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men's and women's basketball teams.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Academy Kappa Scholar Jenny Te Vazquez has made history by becoming the first of the program's students to be awarded the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill.

The March 24 article in The Times-News of Burlington told the story of Sarah Rawls, a member of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Academy's first cohort who will begin pursuing her doctorate at Temple University this year.

Students experienced professional development advice and networking opportunities with alumni

The NC Emerge 1G Summit was hosted and led by Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Examining Disparities in Educational Access Living Learning Community and drew attendees from students around the state.

Inspired by Â鶹ÊÓƵ's commitment to scholarship funding, retired faculty member Nancy Midgette, of Montreat, North Carolina, decided to support students in the Odyssey Program with her gift.

The Sam and Vicky Hunt Scholarship will assist two students each year in the Odyssey Program, a highly selective program for students with exceptional ability and promise and significant financial need.
